Today Corine said we had our pioneer woman training. A lot of the day was spent handwashing clothing and then ironing it to kill any mango fly eggs that would turn into larvae that would burrow into skin. Not a nice thought. We will be much more sparse with our outfit choices this week. Today was basically a day of rest and preparations. Heather and I went on a walk and found ourselves face to face with a very ornery Hobbs the Zebra. I had decided to feed him some Cheez-Its because they are his favorite, but when they were gone he wanted to bite and kick me. Heather and I escaped to some of the playground equipment until he simmered down a bit. Corine gave us some tips about calming zebras later. Nipping is a form of greeting and zebras will use their teeth to clean ticks off of one another. Pinching the neck of a zebra to simulate this grooming can get them to a very Zen place. When Hobbs showed up to our kitchen window later; Corine demonstrated this to good effect. However, I think both Heather and I have a healthy respect for Hobbs and his unpredictability and will give him adequate space and less Cheez-Its in the future.
