Yanksgiving

My housemates and I decided to throw a little Thanksgiving bash of our own in November. Unfortunately, there are no food coma holidays to throw our dinner party on the traditional Thursday so we pushed it to Sunday. The event was aptly named "Yanksgiving" by Nic. We invited a few of our friends to celebrate the bountiful harvest and crammed 10 place settings around our table.

Even the South Africans can make decent appetizers, green beans, mash and sweet potatoes... so we outsourced the sides. The turkey, stuffing, and apple pie, on the other hand, had to be made ourselves.

I searched far and wide for turkeys and finally found a frozen bird at a large supermarket. We were not so lucky with quest for stuffing and had to make it from scratch. We stuffed the bird to the brim, and I dare say, made the best Thanksgiving turkey Johannesburg has ever seen.

This event marked the first Thanksgiving not spent with family so it was nice to gather my new friends and share our Thanksgiving traditions. Our guests were more excited about the food than my explanation of the meeting at Plymouth yet everyone did come up with something they were thankful for in 2010. We ate and drank to our hearts' content. We even had to make a second run to the wine shop.

As a special gift in this holiday season, an extra picture for your viewing pleasure. Over the month of Movember (yes, this is the post of portmanteau words) I grew a mustache...
