Reise nach „Afrika“

Bald geht’s los! Der Flug nach Johannesburg ist gebucht, denn die Ferienzeit rückt immer näher und das wiederum bedeutet, dass Stellenbosch‘s Hauptbevölkerung, die Studenten, in den Urlaub fährt. Die Stadt, die mich eigentlich eher an ein Dorf erinnert, ist dann wie leergefegt. Wie ihr seht, ich hatte keine andere Wahl als auch in den Urlaub zu fahren :D , obwohl ich es schulisch überhaupt nicht verdient  habe. Bewaffnet bin ich für meine Safari mit 2 Backpackerreiseführern, die mir bis Mitte Dezember hoffentlich einige nette Tipps verraten werden.

Ich werde versuchen, so viel wie möglich von den wichtigsten Städten von Südafrika abzuklappern: Johannesburg , Pretoria und das subtropische Durban. Aber auch wichtige Landschaften wie das Highveld und der Krügerpark stehen auf meiner Liste. Dort kann man die BIG 5 besichtigen. Seit ich in Südafrika bin, ist nur davon noch die Rede; sogar der Augenarzt hat mich schon abgefragt. Also, die Big 5 sind die größten Tiere Afrikas, dazu gehören: Löwe, Elefant, Buffalo, Nashorn, Leopard - und nicht die Giraffe! Worauf ich mich aber am meisten freue,  ist die Reise in zwei Länder, die nicht zu Südafrika gehören, Lesotho und Swaziland. Ich erwarte, dort tiefere Wurzeln Afrikas zu erkennen.  Hier im Western Cape wohnen ja doch viele Weiße, die in der Vergangenheit  die Kultur hier sehr strak prägten.

 

Journey to „Africa“

Soon I’ll be off. The flight to Joburg is already booked. Our vacation will start soon and that means that all students are happy to leave the town. Then, nobody wants to stay in Stellenbosch any longer. It becomes very boring and hot! You see, I haven’t had any option but to go onto vacation although I certainly haven’t earned it from a school perspective. Actually, I am all the time on vacation. Most South Africans spend their vacation camping or living near the beach, but I will do my safari. I am well prepared with two backpacker guidebooks (I got them for free :D), which will hopefully teach me the most important thing I need to know.

Three big cities are on my list waiting to be discovered: Jo’burg, Pretoria (just next to it) and the subtropical Durban. But I am also excited to visit the famous Krueger National Park. There you can find the BIG 5: Lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino, leopard. Since I have been living in South Africa, the Big 5 have been a frequent topic of conversation; even the eye doctor quizzed me about them. But I am most looking forward to Swaziland and Lesotho, two countries I had never heard of before. I expect to see deeper African Culture and tradition, that’s I sadly miss in South Africa.
